Recipe for Homemade Pizza : Use a Pizza screen for a perfect Crispy Crust Pizza

Pizza is an ideal food and makes a fast dinner when pressed for time. My young daughter and I always make the pizza together and it’s a great way to spend time. I love the expressions on the faces of family members when we eat the finished pizza. It is so much better when the pizza is exactly the way you want it. The cost is less than half the price of takeout and the ingredients are all premium quality.

The basis for a delicious homemade pizza is the crust. For baking pizza at home follow the recipe below:

Ingredients :
For two 10-12 inch pizzas you will need:

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (105°F-115°F)
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons of dry yeast.
  • 3 1/2 cups bread flour (can use all-purpose but bread flour will give you a crisper crust)
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
If you don’t want to make dough at home then you can buy frozen pizza dough from market.
  • Tomato sauce or any marinara sauce
  • Olive oil
  • Cornmeal (to slide the pizza onto the pizza screen)
  • Mozzarella or Parmesan cheese, shredded
  • String cheese( if you want cheese in the crust)

Pizza Toppings:
Use your favorite toppings.

Pizza Tools

  • Pizza Screen : For crusty pizza base
  • Pizza Peel : For sliding pizza in and out of oven
  • Pizza Cutter : For cutting the pizza, better than a knife
  • How to start:

    • In a bowl add warm water and then sprinkle on the yeast and let sit for 5 minutes until the yeast is dissolved. Stir it if yeast is not dissolved completely.
    • In a large bowl mix in the olive oil, flour, salt and sugar for about a minute. Knead the mixture with hands softly for about 10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic. If the dough seems a little too wet, sprinkle on a bit more flour. You can also use electric dough mixer to knead the flour.

    • Take another bowl and coat it little with olive oil. Place the kneaded dough in this bowl and cover with plastic wrap and let sit in a warm place (75-85°F) until it doubles in size.

    Bake the pizza

    • Preheat the oven to 450°F for at least 30-45 minutes. Place pizza screen in oven.
    • Take out the dough and separate in 2 halves. Then place one dough on flat surface and flatten it with your hands starting from center using your fingertips till base is ½ inch thick. Wait for 5 minutes then again flatten base till the time you acquire 10-12 inch diameter.
    • Take your pizza peel and sprinkle some corn meal. Transfer flattened dough to the pizza peel & lightly shape dough to the desired dimensions.
    • To prevent the dough from getting soggy from the toppings, brush it with olive oil . Make dents along the surface of the dough to prevent bubbling using your figure tips. Let rest another 5 minutes.
    • Prepare your desired toppings. To avoid overloading your pizza with toppings about a third a cup each of tomato sauce and cheese would be sufficient for one pizza. One to two mushrooms thinly sliced will cover a pizza.
    • Place all the prepared toppings on the pizza base.

    • Slide the pizza off of the peel and on to the pizza screen in the oven. Bake pizza for about 10-15 minutes until the crust is browned and the cheese is golden.

For hot & spicy pizza sprinkle crushed red chili and oregano over the hot melting cheese. Use Pizza wheel or cutter for neat and clean pizza slices.
