Starter Gingerbread House

| Step 1: Mix dough according to instructions on Gingerbread
Cookie Dough recipe. |
|
Step 2: Flour a non-stick pastry mat and knead your
dough. Refrigerate for two hours. |
|

|
| Step 3: Roll gingerbread dough to a 1/4" thickness. |
|
Step 4: Flour cutting edge of house cutters, cut out
pieces. Bake at 350 for 12 minutes. |
|

|
| Step 5: While gingerbread is warm and pliable, cut a
small peaked section into 6 triangles for dormers. |
|
Step 6: Cut two small rectangles in half, cut "v"s
into the buttom of each piece for chimney. |
|

|
| Step 7: If you need to make windows or other trim from
royal icing, do so with the parts lying on a flat surface
prior to assembly. |
|
Step 8: Assemble your house, using royal icing as cement
between parts. Hold together with toothpicks until dry. |

|
| Step 9: Use slivered almonds, dry cereal or candy pieces
for roof shingles. |
|
Step 10: Mount the chimney and dormers as shown, then
complete the roof singles |
|
Finished Gingerbread House
Although this is a starter house, you can use the same
cutters to make a variety of other houses, churchs and public

Construction and decorating tips:
- Use more powdered sugar in your royal icing to speed
drying.
- If you don't want your icing "cement" to show,
tint it with food coloring to match the gingerbread.
- Cardboard or wood wrapped in foil, wax paper or decorated
with doilies makes an attractive base. Secure the house
to the surface with royal
icing.
- Make stepping stones fron candy bits for a decorative
walkway.
- To create a brick effect, tint royal
icing. the color of bricks and while it is still wet,
create rows by pressing a woodent skewer into the icing.
Use a toothpick to divide the rows into bricks.
- Waffle pretzels make great windows, Pretzel rods can serve
as pillars and pretzel sticks make great ballusters.
